How many of us know that the Michigan’s Thumb burned so intensely that people sought safety in Lake Huron?  How many have heard of the firestorm in Peshtigo Wisconsin which happened on the same day as the Great Chicago Fire?  What caused these fires and why did they happen when they did?  Are they different from what we see today on the West Coast of the U.S?  Royal Oak resident and historian Derek Blount will give us the fascinating details of these little-known, but catastrophic, midwest fires.
